Juijitsu Training Dummy

I've seen a Juijitsu training dummy between the prices of $600+ to $250. The cheaper dummies appear very stiff with stumps for legs -- or no legs on some -- and often no neck. The more expensive types can flex -- often with bent legs -- and you can position them into your guard position for more realistic training.

I don't know about you, but I can't go around buying a $600+ Juijitsu dummy, (especially when I still want to get a wooden Wing Chun dummy, someday, eventually,...never?) and I didn't want a Juijitsu dummy shaped like a stiff robot with no neck to crank or legs to lock onto, even if the price is a lower $250. So, I did a quick search and found what I needed to build my own dummy, the way I wanted it.

With some electrical cord, short PVC (plastic) pipes, padding, and a LOT of duct tape, I made "Jarvis" my Juijitsu training partner. I made a thick padded neck to practice full force headlocks and cranks, and I made the arms so that there is resistance when I apply an armbar. The legs bend, but I still have to place it against a wall to keep it in my guard. There is some awkward stiffness in the torso and arms, but it can still flex enough for training. The total cost: $175.

    1. Benjamin,
Thanks for your comment. One tip I would give is - when you are putting the duct tape around the torso or body area, don't make it too tight. Leave some looseness or it will feel too hard.

I don't have anymore pics, sorry. Good luck, I hope you build a good dummy, please let me know when you finish it. Feel free to contact me again if you have any questions.
